Cooperstown is such a wonderful getaway if you’re in upstate New York and need a charming spot for a day or weekend trip! It’s a quick drive—under two hours—making it super easy to get there. The town itself is quaint and full of character, which only adds to its charm. We spent two delightful days there last winter and loved it so much that we decided to go back for our anniversary in August. The summer weather was just perfect!

During our stay, we enjoyed the lovely Otesaga Resort Hotel, which oozes historic charm and has an inviting atmosphere. With stunning views of Otsego Lake right from the property, it’s such a beautiful place to relax. If you’re into golf or baseball, there’s no shortage of activities, but even if those aren’t your favorites, you can totally appreciate the peaceful nature that surrounds you—perfect for a romantic escape!
We kicked off our adventure by hitting the road at 8 a.m. The drive was such a pleasure! It felt like we zipped through the countryside in no time, with gorgeous cornfields and colorful vegetable patches lining the way. It made the journey feel like part of the adventure.
We arrived before 10:00 a.m. and headed to a cozy restaurant called 1909 for breakfast. From the moment we stepped inside, the friendly staff made us feel right at home. We snagged a table on the balcony, and luck was on our side with the weather! A gentle breeze drifted in from the lake, and the sunshine created the perfect ambiance for a relaxing meal. We started with some refreshing green tea while browsing the menu, and I was pleasantly surprised to see Georgian cheese bread listed—that was an unexpected treat! I decided to go for the French toast, and wow, it was honestly the best I’ve ever had—so fluffy and delicious! We also couldn’t resist trying the Georgian bread, and it was such a fun addition. I even asked our waiter about it, and he shared that they have a talented Turkish sous-chef on the team, which added a special touch to the menu!
After our mouthwatering breakfast, we strolled around town. There’s so much to explore! You could relax by the hotel’s lovely pool or get adventurous on the lake with kayaking or boating, but we chose to wander down the main street and check out the local shops. We even took a coffee break(!), although it took a bit of searching to find a coffee place. Later, we made our way to Glimmerglass State Park, where we spent a wonderful few hours soaking in the beautiful scenery and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. It was truly the perfect day filled with little moments that made it unforgettable!
